Author Interview & Giveaway with Sionna Cailey

Sionna Cailey is the author of  The Second Half of Life, a contemporary fiction novel with a paranormal twist which I review here. She has joined me on the blog today to answer a few questions and offer my readers the chance to win one of three e-copies of The Second Half of Life. Details on how to enter are at the end of this post.

Welcome Sionna!

Q: What was the inspiration for Second Half of Life?

Sionna: There were so many factors involved when I started this project, that I couldn’t just pin it down to one singular inspiration. What I did want to do is write something that played a bit with the concept of perceptions. On one hand, there’s this perception, that once a woman has the house, the husband and the kids, they’ve got their happy ending. The other is the concept of how perception itself changes your life, more than life changes your perceptions. Despite everything the main characters go through, their lives don’t really change. It’s the perception of their lives that really changes.

Q: What was the most challenging part of writing this book for you?

Sionna: I think the structure was the most challenging part, working with three different points of view and having them so integrated.

Q: Your protagonists Aiden, Kathy and Diana are all very different, which one is most like you?

Sionna: I would have to say there are parts of me in all three characters, but if I have to be completely honest, the one I most identify with is Kurt.

Q: If you could have a wish without consequence, would it be for love, money or fame?

Sionna: I’ve had brushes with all three. I have to say that love is the most satisfying, but they’re all very transient things. Given a choice, I would probably opt for Elizabeth’s wish; to learn and experience more than one usually can in a single lifetime.

Q: Have you ever thought about writing erotica like Diana? How do you think your partner would react?

Sionna: I can’t write erotica. My love scenes generally fade out, and that’s why. Some writers are really excellent at it, and I admire their talent. If I were ever to seriously try my hand at it, I’m pretty sure my husband’s reaction would be to grab it out of my hands and start typing furiously, claiming that he could do better. He probably could, too.

Q: What is your favourite cocktail recipe?

Sionna: I’m a rum and coke girl. I actually don’t drink tequila anymore, as it tends to end in litigation, tears or possibly both.  Perhaps my own experience with tequila is the singular most catalyzing event behind Second Half.

Q: What are you reading right now?

Sionna: Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants.

Thank you for your time Sionna.

  1. I think I would choose love because if I chose money I’d still wouldn’t know what to do with it if I didn’t manage to find love and establish a connection with someone.

  2. I think I’d choose, at this point in my life, money. I have love and its withstood many trials this last year making it stronger than ever. Not to mention the love of my little man which is enough to make me soar. I’d choose money so I could take my family places and make memories. We’re self employed and it would ease so many burdens…
