Life…
*
Well I’m back! Had a wonderful time really though the weather was quite rough for half of the trip, and my youngest daughter was very seasick for the first day and a half. Unfortunately, though not entirely unexpected despite our best efforts, half of us, including me, have tested positive to CoVid on our return. We’d done so well to avoid it for so long so I’m disappointed. So far for me it’s just the sniffles but if I don’t post for a bit you’ll know why.
This was the view from the back of the ship coming in under the Sydney Harbour Bridge this morning.

What I’m Reading This Week…
A funny, heartwarming story about a feisty group of women who shake, spice, and heat things up with a “recipe” book for romance, from the bestselling author of Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons.
Newly installed at All Souls Lutheran, Mallory “Pastor Pete” Peterson soon realizes that her church isn’t merely going through turbulent waters, but is a sinking ship. With the help of five loyal members of the Naomi Circle, the young, bold minister brainstorms fundraising ideas. They all agree that the usual recipe book won’t add much to the parish coffers, but maybe one with all the ingredients on how to heat up relationships rather than casseroles will…
Pastor Pete has her doubts about the project, but it turns out the group of postmenopausal women has a lot to say on the subject of romance. While Charlene, the youngest member at fifty-two, struggles with the assignment, baker-extraordinaire Marlys, elegantly bohemian Bunny, I’m-always-right Velda, and ebullient Edie take up their contributions enthusiastically. After all, their book is really about cooking up love in all its forms.
But not everyone in the congregation is on board with this “scandalous” project. As the voices of opposition grow louder, Pastor Pete and these intrepid women will have to decide how hard they’re willing to fight for this book and the powerful stories within—stories of discovery, softened hearts, and changed lives.

Timothy Blake returns in a tense, unputdownable thriller from the author of Hangman.
A Chinese astronaut is found dead in a NASA training environment in Houston, Texas. No one can explain how he got there. Amid fears of a diplomatic catastrophe, the CIA dispatches Timothy ‘Hangman’ Blake to investigate, because a convicted kidnapper works in the facility – someone Blake put away a long time ago.
Blake is deeply insane, afflicted by terrible urges he can barely control – but he’s also brilliant. Zara, his beautiful and deadly CIA handler, suspects a secret Chinese spacecraft is surveilling the United States, but Blake can see something much more sinister is going on. Something connected to the kidnapping seven years ago, to the technologies being developed at NASA, and to the serial killer known as the Texas Reaper.
Will Blake survive long enough to uncover the truth? And if he does, will anyone even believe him?

Sometimes the end of the road is just the beginning
As a kid brought up on a cattle property in the New England Tablelands, Reggie Macleod vows she is going to swap the country for city life as soon as she can. And she’s followed her dream. Everything is going to plan.
Until one phone call rocks her world entirely.
Reggie’s parents have been badly injured in a car accident and they need her help to run the farm while her brother builds up their recently launched farmstay business. It was only going to be for a couple of months … but that was almost three years ago.
When Tim Warbois checks in to one of their cabins and extends his booking several times, all he seems to want is peace and quiet. But what is really going on under the surface? Is this new hope and purpose he’s discovered going to last?
Will Reggie and Tim manage to overcome the wounds of their pasts and build a new future?

As she approaches thirty, dedicated nurse Ellen Sutton’s life is how she wants it – well, almost. Her younger sister, Carrie, seems to have it all sorted though: a successful hair business, a devoted new boyfriend and a rosy future together. Even Ellen’s brother, Bodhi, is settled with his petite, super-chill chef girlfriend, Ingrid. So why does Ellen suddenly give up her career and family for the red dust and toil of an outback cattle station? She’s never run from anything before – it’s new territory in more ways than one.
But Ellen can’t run forever. And a family camping trip to Western Australia’s beautiful Karijini country brings the three women together once again.
This trip won’t be the dream camping holiday for any of them. But one way or another, it will show them the truth. The Wrong Sister is a heartfelt story about dreams, the importance of family and finding your true self.

I’m glad your trip was a good one, despite Covid! It seems I’m hearing that a lot from people who come back from vacation, so you’re not alone. I hope your family recovers soon😁

I’m glad you were able to enjoy your trip but so sorry you have Covid. We just aren’t going to many places and masking when we do. Since we are homebodies most of the time anyway, it’s not too bad. I love to travel so someday we will but I’m not yet ready.

I am rooting for a mild case and speedy recovery for you! So far I have ducked a positive test, although I was exposed and took a test twice…both negative. I think my luck will run out at some point, however, as I am out and about more during these holidays.
Stay safe and enjoy your week. Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

I’m glad you are back, but I’m sorry that you picked up Covid while you were away. That has happened to a lot of people, I think. Hopefully, your case will be very mild and you will feel better quickly.
And you do have some good books to read through if your case is not too horrible…

Hope you’re well enough to keep reading through it! Two colleagues of mine who had also escaped catching Covid all this time, got sick right after Thanksgiving. It’s definitely still going around, but I’d hate to go back to not being able to travel again, even though there’s a risk.
I’ve got to add Lost Circle of Love to my TBR!

I’ll be interested to hear what you thought of the Lorna Landvik book. I loved her earlier books, but her later books didn’t work for me. I keep hoping she’ll recapture her earlier magic. Have a great week!
