Life…
It was Father’s Day in Australia yesterday. We didn’t do anything special as such, because every Sunday is dad’s day 😉 by which I mean he spends most of every Sunday playing(?) Archery. Anyway you may remember his club was destroyed in the bushfires last November, and then COVID delayed both rebuilding, and participation, but the full range has finally reopened so off he went with a quiver full of new arrows (a gift from the kids). I did make his favourite dinner (beef stroganoff) and the girls made a caramel mudcake for dessert.
To be honest my husband needed the distraction as sadly my brother-in-law passed away on Saturday after being diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer earlier this year. As such I will likely vanish for a few days this week to travel for the funeral, once arrangements have been made. There’s no WiFi at my MIL’s so I won’t be online much.
Just a reminder, you still have a day or so to enter my Blogoversary giveaway for a book of your choice!
And congrats to Stell who won the giveaway of The Sister’s Gift by Barbara Hannay.

What I’m Reading This Week…
This is a poignant comedy about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.
Viewing an apartment normally doesn’t turn into a life-or-death situation, but this particular open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes everyone in the apartment hostage. As the pressure mounts, the eight strangers slowly begin opening up to one another and reveal long-hidden truths.
As police surround the premises and television channels broadcast the hostage situation live, the tension mounts and even deeper secrets are slowly revealed. Before long, the robber must decide which is the more terrifying prospect: going out to face the police, or staying in the apartment with this group of impossible people.

‘Small towns and gossip go together like trees and birds.’
It’s been more than ten years since Maddy Locke left Spinifex, the small outback town where she gave birth to her daughter, Bridget. Now she’s back to prove she’s got what it takes to run the medical centre and face the memories of that challenging time in her life. But everything’s changed – the old pub is gone, her new colleagues aren’t pleased to see her, and it’s drier and hotter than ever.
Station owner, Connor Fairhall, thought he’d left the drama behind in Sydney, but moving back to Spinifex with his rebellious son, Jayden, hasn’t been the fresh start he’d envisioned. His brother, Kyle, is drinking too much and the only bright spot on the horizon is meeting Nurse Maddy, who’s breathing new life into the weary town up the road, little by little.
Can Maddy ignore the rumours about Connor and risk her heart again? Or will the bush telegraph spread along the wire fences and stand in the way of trust?
From Australia’s renowned midwife and bestselling author of The Desert Midwife, The Bush Telegraph is a romantic drama about love, friendship, community and the joys and challenges of life in the outback.

An electrifying thriller with a mind-bending premise: One million viewers witness a popular TV presenter commit suicide live on air – yet his twin brother is convinced it was murder.
How can it be murder when the victim pulled the trigger?
At 9.01 pm, TV presenter Sam Midford delivers the monologue for his popular current affairs show Mr Midnight. He seems nervous and the crew are convinced he’s about to propose to his girlfriend live on air.
Instead, he pulls out a gun and shoots himself in the head.
Sam’s grief-stricken brother Harry is convinced his brother was murdered. But how can that be, when one million viewers witnessed Sam pull the trigger?
Only Jack Quick, a disgraced television producer in the last days of a prison sentence, is desperate enough to take Harry’s money to investigate.
But as Jack starts digging, he finds a mystery more complex than he first assumed. And if he’s not careful, he’ll find out first-hand that there’s more than one way to kill someone .

All Sarah ever wanted was a better life … From the bestselling author of Fled comes a moving tale of revolution, treachery and courage.
In 1820 Sarah McCaffrey, fleeing arrest for her part in a failed rebellion, thinks she has escaped when she finds herself aboard the Serpent, bound from London to the colony of New South Wales. But when the mercurial captain’s actions drive the ship into a cliff, Sarah is the only survivor. Adopting a false identity, she becomes the right-hand woman of Molly Thistle, who has grown her late husband’s business interests into a sprawling real estate and trade empire. As time passes, Sarah begins to believe she might have found a home – until her past follows her across the seas…

I am very sorry for your loss. My condolences to your husband, your family and your brother-in-laws family. Now it sounds strange when I say that I hope that he could enjoy his Father´s Day and being at the club again. I still can see the fire pictures they aired on CNN and BBC and it seems as if it was just yesterday that it happened. Stay safe, well and keep going!

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother-in-law. Most people here are not having funerals in person. I did attend one that was held virtually for a friend.
I hope the time at archery will be good for your husband. Glad his archery range is now restored.
I think I need to update my information on the Nonfiction Challenge. I meant to do that every month. Time got away from me somehow.
Sending good thoughts and prayers.

I’m so sorry about your brother in law. It is terrible when anyone passes, but this year has been so difficult for so many that a death in family is just even more difficult to take. Prayers to all of you!
