It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

The Its Monday! What Are You Reading meme is hosted at Book Journey.

Life…

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and a lovely week with family and friends. I spent a quiet Christmas Day at the beach with my husband, children and my parents and have been doing very little else since.  Keeping with tradition not a book or bookish thing graced my stocking, actually I only got one present – it was a Apple TV box though so I have been having fun exploring that.

I hadn’t planned to but I essentially ended up taking the last week off, spending time with my family, and today is my baby’s 8th birthday. I’ve managed to sneak away while the kids watch a 3D movie of his choice since we only have four pairs of glasses and there are 6 of us, my hubby and I miss out LOL.

I anticipate another week of not getting much done, we have plans over New Years, but I’ve enjoyed the break and refuse to feel too guilty until next week 🙂

What I Read Last Week

What I Am Reading Today

With her hotly anticipated third instalment, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Fielding introduces us to a whole new enticing phase of Bridget’s life set in contemporary London, including the challenges of maintaining sex appeal as the years roll by and the nightmare of drunken texting, the skinny jean, the disastrous email cc, total lack of twitter followers, and TVs that need 90 buttons and three remotes to simply turn on.

What I Plan To Read This Week

(click the covers to view at Goodreads)

Emily Woods counts cracks for a living. Concrete cracks. So when her long-term boyfriend dumps her, she decides it’s time for a change of scenery. Her best friend, Will, suggests joining his construction team in Queensland. Working next door to the Great Barrier Reef seems like just the sort of adventure she needs to reboot her life…until she realises that Will is not the person she thought he was. Charlotte Templeton is frustrated with the lack of respect FIFO workers have for her seaside resort. But picking a fight with their tyrannical project manager, Mark Crawford, seems to lead to more complications than resolutions. The man is too pompous, too rude, and too damned good looking. As both women strive to protect their dreams and achieve their goals, they discover that secrets will come out, loyalty often hurts, and sometimes the perfect man is the wrong one.

Erica Jewell reckons being a part-time vigilante is stressful enough, without the added pressures of a demanding day job, annoying family and bossy cat. Now her mysterious lover has vanished on some clandestine mission, without leaving a forwarding address. Erica thinks that’s pretty typical of hired gun Jack Jones – he’d rather risk his life than his heart. Then Erica discovers with a shock that Jack is M.I.A. on the jungle-infested island of Saint Sebastian. When no one seems willing to help find Jack or even acknowledge his existence, Erica knows she’s his only chance. But negotiating her way around lawless and sweltering Sebastian, where monkey business abounds, proves far more dangerous than she expected.

After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed ‘The Angel of Death’ by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favourite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history. Cullen’s murderous career in the world’s most trusted profession spanned sixteen years and nine hospitals across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Investigative journalist Charles Graeber’s portrait of Cullen depicts a surprisingly intelligent and complicated young man whose promising career was overwhelmed by his compulsion to kill, and whose shy demeanor masked a twisted interior life hidden even to his family and friends. Were it not for the hardboiled, unrelenting work of two former Newark homicide detectives racing to put together the pieces of Cullen’s professional past, and a fellow nurse willing to put everything at risk, including her job and the safety of her children, there’s no telling how many more lives could have been lost. In the tradition of In Cold Blood, The Good Nurse does more than chronicle Cullen’s deadly career and the breathless efforts to stop him; it paints an incredibly vivid portrait of madness and offers an urgent, terrifying tale of murder, friendship and betrayal.

  1. It sounds like you are good with no books in your stocking, but I would be very, very sad. You are enjoying your quiet time, I think, and that is lovely.

    Happy New Year!

  2. oh no, Should we send you 3D glasses? We get them at the theatre, a new pair for every movie you see in the US (crazy but true).

My husband has been looking at Apple TV, do you like it?

Have a great week, happy new years!

    1. Really, we do have a local theatre that shows 3d movies but you have to give the glasses back to them and they are sterilized for the next audience. Glasses here cost a small fortune!
As for the Apple TV The content offered here is pretty woeful but I like that I can mirror from my ipad and stream everything quite easily.
